A Letter to God Summary in English
This story ‘A Letter to God’ is written by ‘G.L Fuents’. This story belongs to a farmer, Lencho, who work hard and live in a valley. His house was situated on the crest of a low hill. He had two sons. That year he had planted corn, and yield was very good. The plants only needed a single downpour.
On day hailstorm destroyed his corn. His all hard work money also destroyed with corn. He had no money for that year. So he decided to write a letter to God to get help from Him. He asked for 100 pesos from God in his letter. He dropped the letter in the mailbox. When a postman found that letter, he was amazed and laughed and showed that letter to his boss.
The boss, who was a fat man, also laughed but suddenly he became serious and thought about the faith of Lencho in God. He decided to help Lencho. So he collected 70 pesos and send them to Lencho. When Lencho found only 70 pesos. He thought that rest of the money was swiped by post office employees. He wrote the second letter to God and asked for the rest of the money and requested him to not send money by the post office because he thought that post office employees were not honest.

यह कहानी ‘भगवान को एक पत्र’ जी.एल फुंटस द्वारा लिखी गयी है। यह कहानी एक मेहनती किसान लेंचो से सम्बंधित है जो एक घाटी में रहता है। उसका घर एक कम ऊंचाई वाली पहाड़ी की छोटी पर स्थित है। उसके दो बेटे हैं। उस साल उसने मकई बोया था और उसकी फसल बहुत अच्छी थी। पौधों को केवल एक हलकी बारिश की जरूरत होती है।
एक दिन ओलों से उसकी फसल बर्बाद हो जाती है। उसकी सारी मेहनत भी उसकी फसल के साथ बर्बाद हो जाती है। उस वर्ष के लिए उसके पास कोई पैसा नहीं होता है। इसलिए वह एक पत्र लिखकर भगवान से मदद मांगने का निश्चय करता है। वह अपने पत्र में भगवान से 100 पेसो मांगता है। वह मेलबॉक्स में पत्र को डाल देता है। जब एक डाकिये को वह पत्र मिलता है तो उसे आश्चर्य होता है और हँसता है और अपने बॉस को वह पत्र दिखाता है।

The House – the only one in the entire valley – sat on the crest of low hill. From his height, one could see the river and the field of ripe corn dotted with the flowers that always promised a good harvest.

The only thing, the earth needed, was a downpour or at least a shower. Throughout the morning Lencho – who knew his fields intimately – had done nothing else but seen the sky towards the North-East.

The woman, who was preparing supper, replied: “Yes, God’s willing.”

It was during the meal that, just as Lencho had predicted, big drops of rain began to fall. In the North-East huge mountains of clouds could be seen approaching. The air was fresh and sweet.

With a satisfied expression, he regarded the field of ripe corn whit its flowers, draped a curtain of rain. But suddenly a strong wind began to blow and along with the rain very large hailstones began to fall. These truly did resemble new silver coins. The boys, exposing themselves to the rain, ran out to collect the frozen pearls.

“It’s really getting bad now”, exclaimed the man. “I hope it passes quickly.”
It did not pass quickly. For an hour, the hail rained on the house, the garden, the hillside, the cornfield, on the whole valley. The field was white as if covered with salt. Not a leaf remained on the trees. The corn was totally destroyed. The flowers were gone from the plants. Lencho’s soul was filled with sadness. When the storm had passed, he stood in the middle of the field and said to his sons.
Hindi Translation – “यह बहुत बुरा हो रहा है” आदमी ने विस्मित होकर कहा “आशा करता हूँ यह जल्दी ख़त्म हो जाए”

That night was a sorrowful one.
“All our work, for nothing.”
“There’s no one who can help us.”

But in the hearts of all who lived in that solitary house in the middle of the valley, there was a single hope; help from God.
“Don’t be so upset, even though this seems like a total loss. Remember, no one dies of hunger.”

He wrote “To God” on the envelope, put the letter inside and still troubled, went to town. At the post-office, he placed stamp on the letter and dropped in into the mailbox.

One of the employees, who was a postman and also helped at post-office, went to his boss laughing heartily and showed him the letter to God. Never in his career as a postman had he known that address. The post-master-a fat, amiable fellow-also broke out laughing, but almost immediately he turned serious and, tapping the letter on his desk, commented:

It was impossible for him to gather together the hundred pesos, so he was able to send the farmer only a little more than half. He put the money in an envelope addressed to Lencho and with them a letter containing only a single word as a signature: God.

The following Sunday, Lencho came a bit earlier than usual to ask if there was a letter for him. It was the postman himself who handed the latter to him while the postmaster, experiencing the contentment of a man who has performed good deed, looked on from the doorway of his office.

On the public writing table, he started to write, with much wrinkling of his brow, caused by the effort he had to make to express his ideas. Ans. Lencho was a farmer. His earth needed a downpour or at least a shower. He was sure that it would rain as he had seen clouds in the NOrth-East. One day during the meal, big drops of rain began to fall. Lencho went out and was very happy as the raindrops amounted to coins. His fields will yield rich crops due to these raindrops.

The postmaster opened the letter addressed to God. He laughed heartily. But soon he became serious. He said, “I wish I had the faith of the man who wrote this letter.” He decided to help Lencho. He collected money from his employees. He also gave a part of his salary. He sent money to Lencho in an envelope. Due to his firm faith. Lencho was not surprised to see the money.

(1) A fat, amiable fellow: The postmaster was a fat, amiable fellow. When the postman showed him a letter addressed to God, he broke out laughing.

(2) Faith in God: The postmaster had a deep faith in God. He was surprised to see Lencho’s faith in God. He said, “What faith! I wish the faith of the man who wrote this letter.”

(3) Kind and Sympathetic: The postmaster saw the letter addressed to God. He read the content of the letter. He decided to help Lencho. He could not arrange money in full. He collected some money from his employers. He also gave a part of his salary. Thus he helped Lencho. This show his kindness.

When Lencho opened the envelope he found in it only seventy pesos whereas he had asked God for one hundred pesos. He thought the postoffice people had taken away thirty pesos from the envelope. So he called them ‘bunch of crooks’. He was not justified in calling them crooks. But it only shows his firm faith in God and his innocence.
